Recently I have been seeing this commercial a lot. It starts out innocent enough, talking about eating a clean salad with fresh dressing. But here is where I start to pay attention. The commercial says have this wonderful salad delivered right to your desk and eat while you work. As if we don’t spend enough time at our desks…now they are encouraging us to eat lunch at our desks. I don’t know about you, but since I know I have to work my full time job at my desk and then go home and work on my hobby at my desk, the last thing I want to do is eat lunch at my desk.
Walk Away Once in Awhile
I am here to encourage you to get away from your desk at lunch. Clear your head, change your scenery, take a quick break from your computer. You will be amazed how even the little breaks throughout the day will make you more focused and productive.

It always surprises me how a few simple things can get you more focused and make you more productive. Here are a few things I do when I start to lose focus at work:
* Call someone instead of emailing them, or better yet, walk over to their desk
* Get up and move, even if it is just to get another cup of coffee (my FitBit is set to remind me to move every house and I am honestly shocked when it goes off and I realized I have been stuck in the same place for an hour!)
* Turn on your favorite music and dance, even in your chair (I love all things 80s!)
* If you are really stuck, take five minutes and do an easy task on your to do list. It will make your feel productive that you accomplished something and you will be able to tackle the bigger task with a much better attitude
* Get outside and soak up a little sun. A walk around the outside of your office building might be just what you need to refocus
Never Apologize for Eating Lunch Away From Your Desk
Never apologize for eating lunch away from your desk (and especially try not to eat dinner while sitting at your desk working away). Even if it is just a quick walk around the office, make sure that you are taking a few minutes to recharge. And don’t listen to the commercials and social media screaming at you to work more. Taking time for yourself is the best thing you can do to boost your productivity. When that five minute break is over, you may just find that the super hard task you were working on was not that difficult after all.
