I have seen a couple of commercials lately that seem to be encouraging us to lie.  Now they are not coming out and saying that, but what they are saying is that no one needs to know the truth.  Let me just say, I think we need more of the truth, especially on social media.

The Real Truth on Social Media

Be honest, how many of you have looked at a social media post and compared yourself to whatever you are reading?  (My hand is right up there with you).  But do you know what is really going on?  Absolutely not!  Think how much better we would be if we were honest in those posts.  How many people might be encouraged to see that they are not the only ones who are struggling? Or that they are not the only ones that don’t have all the answers?

 Learn to Be More Genuine

Now, I am not saying that everyone needs to know everything about you.  But I do think we need to be more genuine.  I am the first to admit I don’t know what I am doing all the time when it comes to blogging.  But I am willing to learn.  And I am willing to show you how I am learning (and maybe even my mistakes when I learn I have been doing it all wrong!).  I want you to know I am not perfect (I know you are shocked by that revelation :)).

Don’t Be Afraid to Show the Real You

Some days I don’t do all of my chores.  My to-do list has things on it that have been there for years.  And while my dog is mostly well behaved, there are still some days I wonder why she is not listening to me.  But what I do know for sure is I never want to lie to you.  And, more importantly, I never want you to compare yourself to me.

Take Your Own Path

We are all on our own path.  And while they might intersect or run parallel to each other for awhile, our paths are not the same.  Ultimately, your path is your own.  And that is a good thing (think of the traffic jam we would face everyday if we were all on the same path!).  So next time you read or see something on social media and you want to compare yourself…fight the urge.  Just look around and smile because you are on your own path, not theirs.  If you follow their path, you will get where they want to go.  But your path will get you where you want to go.
